The space

Built from old windows, and it shows in the best way

Every wall is salvaged sash, so no two panes are quite the same and the light comes through with a little wobble in it. Whitewashed timber, a corrugated roof, flagstone set in pea gravel underfoot, and sheer linen curtains on every side that you can pull when the sun gets strong.

It is one room. That is the point. You book it alone for the window you reserve, so there is no one waiting at the door and no one in the background of your frames.

For photographers

What the light does through the day

The roof is corrugated rather than clear, so direct sun arrives already broken up. Even at noon you get soft edges instead of hard shadow lines. The long walls are glass on both sides, which means you can shoot in either direction without moving a light. The doors face [west].

  • Cool and even. Full-length light through the side windows, nothing blown out. Best window for newborns and anyone who squints.
  • Bright and diffused. The roof does the work of a scrim. Pull the curtains on one side if you want a single direction.
  • Warm and directional. Long shapes across the flagstone. This is the one most people book.
  • Gold through the doors. Low sun comes straight in and runs the length of the floor, and the roof flares. Roughly [45 minutes] before sunset.

Sessions are booked with [30 minutes] of clearance on either side, so you are never loading in while someone else is loading out.

The grounds

A rose walk, raised beds, and a fence line

The greenhouse sits at the end of a garden of raised beds with climbing white roses trained over wire arches. Walk under them and the doors are waiting at the other end, which is a ready-made aisle if you want one.

Past the garden it opens to board fence and pasture, so you get a second and third setup without leaving the property. Roses are on the arches [May through October].

Rates

One rate, by the hour

$125 per hour, two-hour minimumThe whole greenhouse and the garden, to yourself, for the window you book. Setup and cleanup happen inside your hours.

Portrait sessions

Two to four hours

  • Families, seniors, maternity, branding, editorial
  • Furniture stays or goes, your call
  • Curtains, a ladder and a step stool on site

Gatherings

Four hours and up

  • Showers, dinners, workshops, elopements, birthdays
  • Up to 12 guests, and that number is firm

Photographers booking [four or more] sessions in a season get [10%] off the hourly rate. Ask when you send your first request.

Tell us when, and we will hold it

Fill this in and it builds your request. Send it from your own email so the thread stays with you. We reply within [one business day] with availability, the rental agreement, and a link to pay the 50 percent deposit.

House notes

The short list

  • A 50 percent deposit holds the date. The balance is due the day before.
  • Reschedule free with seven days notice, once.
  • A signed rental agreement and liability waiver comes with your deposit. Everyone in your party attends at their own risk.
  • The walls are salvaged glass. Any pane broken during your booking is a $150 charge per pane.
  • No power and no restroom on site. Bring what you need.
  • Candles are welcome in hurricane jars. No open flame.
  • No confetti, glitter, or loose petals. The gravel keeps them forever.
  • Dogs are welcome in photos. Please keep them off the furniture.
  • Move anything you like. Put it back roughly where you found it.
  • Take your trash with you. There is no bin on site.
  • Music is fine. Keep it inside the glass, the neighbors are close.
  • Cutting from the garden is by arrangement and never on the day.
  • Rain is fine. It sounds wonderful on the roof and the light goes silver.
